Emerging Topics:

There are currently opportunities to undertake research at ARCAA in the following topics:

Vision-based Guidance of UAVs Description: Computer vision has been acknowledged as one of techniques that can provide the richest amount of information. The research deals with he development of techniques to enable/enhance the navigation capabilities of UAVs using vision systems.

Vision-based detection of targets at sub-pixel resolutions

Description: When using image processing for sense-and act, collision threats depending on the distance, may appear as small subpixel resolution 'spots' - this research focuses on the development of algorithms for the detection of targets exhibiting these properties within images

Centralised/decentralised control of the airspace Description: The two existing dominate paradigms for “network control” are decentralised and centralised control. However, in the presence of data-limited communication links, and measurement uncertainty, there might be other options for achieving safe operation. One option is a “negotiated” control paradigm (a negotiated mixture of decentralised and centralised controllers).
